personnel have already been evacuated. this while violent clashes continued overnight in egypt. we are looking at the streets of cairo. right now protestors are still filling those streets. there was a second protest there in cairo. you are looking also at brand new video from outside of the u.s. embassy in cairo. police have been using tear gas to disperse thousands of protestors who are in the street. >> american troe dozier's anti p muslim movie made here in the u.s. they are also looking at the possibility this is linked to the deadly attack on the consulate in benghazi. four americans killed including the u.s. ambassador in libya. (chanting)

>> meantime riots breaking out in tunisia where dozens of pro tests burning the american flag you suicide of the u.s. embassy. >> let's get the latest from our own gregg palkot who joins us live from london. a lot going on. what's the update? >> we were just speaking with a yemeni official. he tells me in fact the perimeter walls the security core done around the u.s. embassy in the capital of yemen have been breached by protestors. he says there was damage done to the embassy grounds. he says the situation is under control. as you noted there was damage done the flag taken down. some injuries some destruction to u.s. property in that area. that is happening while we were

also watching in cairo egypt were protests have gone on through tonight into today. police trying to deal with that situation now firing tear gas into a crowd. the anger in yemen and cairo and the anger we are hearing about from other countries as you hear about stemming from the movie "made in the u.s." seen as critical of the muslim prophet mohammed. one of the motivations it is thought behind the violent assault on the consulate in the u.s. on tuesday which resulted in the death of the u.s. ambassador to libya as well as three other americans. that is just one of the motivations behind that, though. more and more officials in washington and elsewhere are looking at the possibility that might have been a complex organized attack on that consulate and that in fact al qaeda might have some strong

linkages there being looked at very closely is a video released this week by the number one in al qaeda. calling fin libya the bodies of stevens as well as three other americans as well as severely injured in that attack we are told now in germany at a hospital. we believe the team of 50 marines part of a rapid response team is now in tripoli they have the u.s. embassy there cruise millses being stationed off the coast of libya as well as fbi agents. the word from the white house the word from president obama is justice will be done. right now in libya you have a

situation of a manhunt. a manhunt for who might be responsible for the death of the ambassador and other americans. we are looking at a multi facetted situation right now an actual killing violent perhaps organized strike in libya perhaps related to that film but others throughout the mideast region definitely related to the action of that movie. the arab spring moving int something that looks a little bit different right now. back to you, folks. in addition to the marines and war ships being dispatched to libya there was word the u.s. was planning to strongly beef up security at all of the embassies worldwide in particular in the middle east. but still they were able to

reach t-- breech the grounds in yemen literally going on as we speak? >> i have been to that embassy and it's not a major fortress outside. the they are protected by the marines. we have no confirmation u.s. marines fired at protestors. we do understand yemeni security did fire into the crowd and no information about any deaths or injuries. as you noted president obama very much stating that security will be beefed up through out the region. he was on the phone overnight to the leaders of both libya and egypt. particularly egypt. he wants to make sure that that situation doesn't get out of control. there are plans for a major,

what they call a million man march tomorrow in cairo, egypt in response to that movie. that is being organized by the ruling party in egypt right now. remarkably enough. they say it is peaceful but things are pretty shaky there now. >> first it is egypt then libya now we are learning yemen which is just across the red sea the bottom base of saudi arabia so people can have an idea of where this is. what's the government there like? >> the government is in turmoil like most in the region. a major chapter of al qaeda. it is active this yemen. no word they have linkage with the events seen today. the government is shiftling now and is not in complete control of the situation.

it lost bits of territory of yemen to control to the terrorists. you can image they have put things out of control. that is basically the concern of the united states right now to the various countries most dramatically and horrifically in libya. in libya there are many militant groups that have their own autonomy that are not controlled. al qaeda bases believe to be operating training camps believe to be operating in libya itself. perhaps some of those responsible for the death of the u.s. diplomats involved with or came from. new word new reports in addition they have stepped up a grown surveillance operation will be put into place in libya and the search and maybe the targeting of terrorists there.

>> we mentioned in addition to egypt and yemen and libya there have been riots in tonenesia and burning of american flags there. what's the status of tunisia? >> tunisia is a country in transition. we blaefed it would be a little more stable than the other countries. you can see by the anger touched off in the streets in the crowd to this movie. we are not getting any reports of new problems. but again thursday, friday the holy day of prayer for the muslim faith a traditional day of people gathering. we are building up to a crescendo of activity. it is a fear that the arabs while unleashing great o outpourings of democratic spirit

may have it in other areas more violent tendencies in the region. we could be seeing that right now, folks. gregg palkot, thank you so much. glad you could answer some of the questions. president obama calling them to work with the united states to make sure diplomats are safe but the chaos overseas becoming an issue in the presidential campaign. >> mitt romney said the embassy is the administration. when they responded to the tins protests outside of the front door with a note con temming not the actions of the protestors outside but the efforts of misguided individuals who hurt the religious feelings of muslims. mitt romney didn't think that was strong enough.

he called him out on that. his statement was put out before he knew the american ambassador was killed. his republican challenger was too quick to criticize says president obama. >> there's a lesson here. governor romney has a tendency to shoot first and aim later. as president one of the things i have learned you can't do that. it is important for you to make sure the statements that you make are backed up by the facts and that you have thought through the ramifications before you make them. earlier yesterday mitt romney stood by his criticism of the president and said while mr. obama has had some successes and some failures his foreign policy is not found. >> i spoke out when the key fact i referred to is known which was the embassy of the united states issued what appeared to be an apology for american principles. that was a mistake. i believe when a mistake was

on both sides. they moved the embassy sign out of the wall and set tires on fire. they brought down the u.s. flag and burned it. the associated press is reporting the protestors are on the embassy's grounds but have not entered the offices. this attack following tuesday night's storming of the united states consulate in benghazi where the ambassador and three other staff members were killed. yemen is home to al qaeda's most active branch. we will get reaction from kc mcfarland. >> al qaeda releasing video of hostage warren weinstein. the 71-year-old who appears in good death delivered a message to benjamin netanyahu asking him to intervene on his behalf. he was kidnapped last august in pakistan by 8 armed men who broke into his home.

controversial movie? >> very little. i think the movie was the excuse. if you look at cairo and egypt and benghazi and libya. those were within hours of each other on september 11th first anniversary after the death of bin laden. they were well organized probably organize the well in advanced. the movie was an out. they would vl done it they would have found another excuse. >> we have had relacks from o president obama and secretary of state clinton. let's listen to some of that. we don't have that at the moment but one of the things that secretary clinton said was the attack in libya piered to be a savage some what isolated act. everyone was optimistic. this is we are getting rid of

dictators and we are replaced by academic movements. when it broke out who was there? it was young angry people who didn't have jobs. 75 percent of the population is under the age of 30 and don't have jobs. they wanted a political say in their economy. has that changed? no. 18 months later. there were more angry young men on the streets easily manipulated. libya the horrible deaths of americans ee egypted is now run by the muslim brotherhood it's an organization which has a long history of saying they want shirea law, death to america, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. they are running the country in egypt there has been no apology from egypt. that one makes me a little more

wrong but they are not going to make an effect. the whole idea is not sufficient. >> we are talking about hundreds of pro tests storming. >> we see yemen coming up. we should have been trying to get everything in place. what happened with the 9-11 build up. we should have prepared for this. 9-11 anniversary we have additional resources available. we didn't do that. >> where was the security? how can you explain the bams dorr's family? >> one of the thing former intelligence case officer is people like me should be outside of the wire doing the hard work. this was an organized event. if it was organized it means it is rehearsed. the cia pays a lot of money. where is the cia in all of this? they should have been doing the outer perimeter stuff getting inside the groups to give us early warning. that is key and critical here.

>> we have thwarted terrorist attacks in the u.s. >> we knew because we had diminished the security apparatus of the libyan government. that is one of the problems with our policy. we should have gotten qaddafi to begin with and left is in space. although we have a friendly government they are not able to govern that's why we should have been having our own guys outside the wire doing their own things to protect something like this. >> do leaders have to regroup? >> yes. >> we knew about see egypt and libya we are walking in with 30 minutes to go the em macy has been stormed. this is getting big. it might be digger and digger and digger. drawing that line and being clear about it. i do agree with president omni. they are apologizing for these americans who put up something offensive on the internet was

the wrong signal to send. we admire enjoy freedom of speech and we defend our equities, period. instead this yemen thing i believe is a direct result of the milk toast response of the president. even his statement later today we really should defend. >> what was your message? what would you do? >> make it very clear you are spending security forces to where they need to be. yemen all of these places we know are hot spots. double down. one of the things yesterday i talked to a former reagan administration senior advisor he said the moment the heads popped over the embassy wall the instructions would have been to shoot them. the idea all of this touchy feely stuff and reach out and be nice stuff we interpret it as

our knowledge are familiar with the grounds of that embassy. there is a security building and that's what the protestors got into. they breached through the walls and got through the doors. they pulled down a flag. the actual embassy itself the offices were not breached the u.s. marines who are guarding that embassy did not have to get involved did not have to fire. although we understand that yemeni security officials were firing in the air. it is an ongoing situation there. it is not over there to the best of our knowledge. through out the night there reason rock throwing froese -- protestors. we are looking at possible

injuries there. all of these protests seem to be tied as you noted to that u.s. made film seen as anti muslim, anti islamic prophet mohammed. that is stirring up problems through out the region. also possible interest behind benghazi on tuesday in libya in which the u.s. ambassador chris stevens and three others were killed when it was stormed by rpg's machine gun fire burnt down. the latest situation we are hearing there is the bodies of the u.s. ambassador and those others killed and injured in that attack are now at a u.s. military hospital in germany. a team of marines is in libya.

one of two special destroyers. drones are over libya because perhaps there's something more complex more organized. experts that i have been speaking to looking hard at a video released by al-zawahri. that video acknowledged the death by a u.s. drone missile strike of al qaeda number 26789 there are al qaeda linked groups in libya. they are thinking perhaps this might have been connected with the deadly dints at the benghazi area. the word is from washington from the state department the security is being beefed up through out the region at various embassies. people are looking out for more

trouble especially if we might turn to cairo where there was a call for a massive march tomorrow. the holy day of brprayer for th muslim faith. focused a bit on cairo. as we have been following this morning on yemen and all parts of the mideast region. >> we are looking now at cairo. the shot we are showing is peaceful. the situation not fully under control there. egypt's president gave a statement egypt rejecting these unlawful acts. egypt will not allow ta tax on embassies. the military of the u.s. is not always charged they protect

embassies but don't always benghazi. the one in tripoli would have been protected by u.s. marines. that's our understanding, yes. the u.s. marines state specifically they were not involved at the incident in the u.s. consulate in benghazi on tuesday. they can be. marines have been deployed at the consulate and embassy. the security arrangements there is a little bit lower than usual. a little bit more temporary as handbags as far as walls in had some cases. to be sure that is being looked at, that facility. in fact there's nobody there right now in terms of american

sta staff>> we talked about sending in 50 marines. the war ships are in labia. there is no way they can protect the higher region. you have been there at the embassy in yemen. if they do if the u.s. secures the embassies are we talking about one or two security officers or hundreds that surround the whole compound? >> you are talking about beefed up security a heightened alert. u.s. marines are train to do this job train to do defend the embassies. there can be beefing up adding personnel. the presence off the libyan

kp mcfarland thank you for joining us again. the former ambassador along with others killed. here's a problem. we have a precedence. jimmy carter had the same situation in tehran. carter tried to negotiate and tried to apologize. what happened was the country just laughed at him. they kept hostages longer and longer and longer. that was a bad example. you don't want to appear weak you want to appear strong. in the 80s it was a very different reaction. the problem with president obama coming out and trying to apologize and be understanding and not set a firm position is that all of the leaders in the arab countries say gee i have the mobs on the street and i

have president obama i have the mob on the street they are more dangerous to me. if they did know what was going on why didn't they stop it? we could use american i'd do all of these countries as leverage. >> a lot of monetary aid flowing to some of these countries. what should happen there? >> israel is where we should take the strong r strong stand. the whole reason for being is to attack the united states go after american interests. their whole charter talks about an islamic state through out the world. you did know about this. you reevacuated the american embassy in cairo as a result of this in advance so there wouldn't be casualties. we have put you in a position we

want something for it we have done it right away. then will you really be in trouble. >> meanwhile how much further is this going to spread? we have a big march in cairo. according to roiters a leader of the iraqi militia there is saying that american interests in iraq are in danger. there are a lot of americans not just military and dep mats but teachers, aid workers. are they in any danger in any one of these con trees. second thing is it is expected to get worse. from now on it will spread like wildfire particularly bad tomorrow because friday is their day of prayer. they will go to the mosques.

try to get that over the horizon we didn't do that here. >> since qaddafi was killed there have been an influx of weapons specifically shoulder launchers. where are they getting these weapons? >> the shoulder launchers were purchased qaddafi and went missing before he fell. these are an issue they have been trying to deal with. >> we armed dozens of these groups. libya is not like a normal western country. it is very tribal. we saw bosnia, we saw all of the chaos there. we predicted the same thing would happen. i predicted this months ago. we armed the groups with understanding their loyalty. one of the groups made part of this attack in the embassy maybe they were happy with qaddafi being gone.
